A New Project for OT and Crumley

We have been busy at Crumley this summer.   Milligan OT and Crumley received a Harris Grant for our “Opportunities Together” program.  Did you catch what we did there with the “O” and the “T”?  We are redesigning two of the back rooms at Crumley into specific activity centers for different occupations and training options.

The first task has been a big one and we are still not quite done.  We needed to clean out and sort the many items that were stored back there to identify the ones that we can use for the project and the ones that either need to be tossed out or redistributed.   So here are some pictures to highlight the progress.

Day One

This is how the rooms looked at the start.   The rooms are connected and the first three pictures are of the room on the left.  It actually looks pretty open and clear when we started.  What you don't see is all of the things stuffed in closets and boxes in somewhat random fashion.

This is the room on the right.

The first thing we needed to do was make a mess and make a mess we did.  Here are pictures from the end of Day 3.  We had some great help on Day 3 from Rebekah and Dawn, OT students that hadn't started their level 2 Fieldwork rotations yet.  They were a great help in creating the mess you see below - which is a very necessary and helpful mess. It is definitely a work in progress.

Days 4 and 5 were more of the same with great help from several of the Crumley members including Amanda, Justin, Jeff and Kelly.  By the end of the fifth day, we could see a bit of progress in the room on the left.

Here are Justin, Jeff, Kelly and Amanda working on sorting papers stickers, notebooks and cards on Day 6.

By the end of Day 6, we were able to hang up signs designating the planned activity centers we will develop as we move forward. (Click on each picture to enlarge it enough to read the signs.)

Today was Day 7 and much of the day was spent dealing with books and tapes and moving big items out of the room on the right.  It actually looks worse than this picture, but we are making progress.

Let us know if you are interested in helping out as this will be an ongoing project and so far it has been a lot of fun.
